Bloor ranks Paxata top champion in self-service data prep market study

Paxata Leads the Pack Among Full Field of Competitors Including Alteryx, ClearStory Data, IBM, Informatica, Progress, Tamr and Trifacta

The Self-Service Data Preparation 2015 Market Update was independently conducted by Bloor Research and included eight vendors in the comprehensive study: Alteryx, ClearStory Data, IBM, Informatica, Paxata, Progress, Tamr and Trifacta.

As depicted in the graphic below, vendors with the highest scores were placed nearest the center.

The Bloor analysts then defined a benchmark score for a domain leading company from their overall ratings and all those above that were placed in the Champions segment. Those that remain were placed in the Innovator segment if their innovation rating was over 2.5 and Challenger if it was less than 2.5. The exact position in each segment is calculated based on the combined innovation and overall score. In a related Bloor Research Spotlight report titled Self-Service Data Preparation, Bloor analysts stressed the point that, “In practice there are products focused on end users, there are products targeted at data scientists, there are some whose strengths are more in the area of unification and there are others that emphasize wrangling.

” Several of the other vendors in the report, such as those in the graphic above, were characterized as “…data unification platforms in that the focus is on unifying large numbers of different data sets more than on the actual blending of data” and “lacks some data quality functionality.”
